Titled "But You Caint Use My Phone," Badu references her song "Tyrone," which appeared on her 1997 "Live" album and turned out to be a radio hit at the time. The mixtape, whose announcement caused a massive stir online, was recorded by Badu in 12 days of non-stop creative activity after she decided to record her own version of Drake's "Hotline Bling" (later renamed "Cell U Lar Device") for a good friend as a birthday present

The entire mixtape was recorded, written and mixed in Badu's own home studio in her hometown of Dallas, where she recorded all the tracks with producer Zach Witnessin.
